Ashton 77

A man of the match performance by Nathan Ashton was not enough for the Eagles Reserve side as they lost 3-1 on the road to Wycombe Wanderers.

After a quite opening 15 minutes it was the travelling side that could have taken the lead on the 20th minute. Kieran Djilali's upper body strength allowed him to hold off Will Antwi on the edge of the box before squaring the ball to Nathan Ashton, but his shot was well defended in the end by the Blues, as keeper James Reading and Tom Cadmore combined to clear the ball away to safety,

However, nine minutes later the game did see its first goal through Wycombe's Matty Phillips who ran from the right side of the pitch to find Derek Duncan, who prodded home from 10 yards.

Things would not get much better 11 minutes later when Tom Cadmore's 30 yard run culminated in a quick one two with Robbie Rice, but as Cadmore collected the return he was brought down in the box.

Robbie Rice stepped up to take the spot kick and coolly rolled the ball down the middle of the goal past Eagles keeper Steve Arnold.

Less than two minutes later Arnold was again picking the ball out of his net. A whipped in ball from deep bounced six yards from goal and Rice managed to nip ahead and flick the ball past Arnold.

In the second half the Eagles could have grabbed one back when some marvellous trickery from Ashton on the left found Ashley Robinson, but his header was flicked over by Reading for a corner.

Lewwis Spence came close on the 56th minute when he forced Reading to palm a fierce strong long range shot away from goal.

After making three substitutions through the course of the game the Blues were reduced to 10 men on the 71st minute after Scott Shulton limped off of the field after an earlier challenge.

A consolation goal came the Eagles way with 13 minutes left on the clock when Ashton jinked in from the left hand side before blasting the ball past Reading and see the game eventually end 3-1 to the home side.
