Chris Armstrong
Clubs: Wrexham, Millwall, Crystal Palace, Tottenham Hotspur, Bolton Wanderers, Wrexham
Chris Armstrong joined Palace in September 1992 as a £1m striker from Millwall. Quiet and withdrawn off the park, he made an immediate impact with two goals on his home debut against Oldham Athletic and another to secure the club's first Premiership victory in the following game against Everton. His total of 15 goals in his first season was easily Palace's best in an ill fated season and in a struggling side and without the assistance of a regular strike partner it represented a great achievement.
Chris again performed brilliantly in 1993/94, helping Palace to the First Division championship with 23 league goals, including some spectacular efforts and a hat-trick against Portsmouth on August 28th. The following season in the Premiership Chris could only find the net eight times but he did score regularly in the cup competitions as the Eagles reached the semi-finals in both the FA Cup and League Cup.
After relegation in 1994 Chris was a sought after striker and it was no surprise when he moved to Tottenham Hotspur for £4.5m, a record transfer fee paid for a player from Crystal Palace at the time.
