Phil Barber

Clubs: Aylesbury, Crystal Palace, Millwall, Plymouth Argyle (L), Bristol City, Mansfield Town (L), Fulham (L), Dover Athletic
Phil Barber was signed from non-league Aylesbury in 1983 by Alan Mullery and the midfielder went on to distinguish himself as a very valuable member of several Palace sides. He became known as 'fizzer' to his teammates and fans and he could always be relied upon to give his upmost to the cause.
Phil began his Palace career as a striker but he increasingly featured on the left-hand side of midfield and it was there that he started every game in the 1988/89 promotion season. As well as playing in every game Phil also scored some extremely useful goals and he was involved in the build-up to Ian Wright's early goal in the play-off final against Blackburn Rovers.
Only injury prevented Phil from starting every match in Palace's first season back in the top-flight in 1989/90 but he was an ever-present in the side that reached the FA Cup final, scoring the winner to overcome Rochdale in the Fifth Round.
