Nick Chatterton

Clubs: Crystal Palace, Millwall, Colchester United
Nick Chatterton was the fair-haired son of former groundsman and wartime player Len and the pair were the second father and son to have played for Palace after Johnny and Shaun Brooks).
Nick was an industrious midfield man who was highly rated by both Malcolm Allison and Terry Venables, not to mention his team-mates. He was an invaluable member of the successful 1976 side that reached the FA Cup semi-final as a Division Three club and the one that gained promotion in such thrilling circumstances the following year. After promotion to Division Two Nick appeared completely at ease and the 1977/78 season as probably his best for the club.
A quiet, thinking man, Nick chose to leave the Eagles in October 1978 when Palace bought Steve Kember back to SE25 and he went on to have a very good career at Millwall, where he became club captain, and Colchester United.
