Eagles Academy product Sean Scannell made his second appearance in as many days for the Republic of Ireland as they beat Lagos 3-1 in Portugal.

The pacey winger replaced Newcastle's Damien Duff on the 65th minute last night as his team went on to win 3-1 courtesy of strikes from Glenn Whelan, Darren Potter and Andy Keogh at the Municipal Stadium.

Less than 24 hours earlier the Eagles youngster was part of the team that drew 1-1 against Portuguese outfit Portimonesse when he replaced Reading's Kevin Doyle on the 72nd minute.

Following the second training game Giovanni Trappatoni said: "It was good opportunity to see the players in action. At this stage, after just a few days together, the players are still thinking about things rather than playing instinctively.

"Their mentality is good but there is still work to be done to change some of their habits.

"The pitch was not good and some of the passes which normally would have been accurate were not."

The Irish squad will spend another two days training in the Algarve before returning to Dublin on Thursday to commence final preparations for Saturday's eircom international against Serbia at Croke Park.

They will then travel to London for next Thursday's match against Colombia at Fulham's Craven Cottage ground.
