Palace's latest signing arrived at the Beckenham training ground this week to join in with his new team-mates in the first week of pre-season training.

Jeff Hughes penned a three year deal with the Eagles after arriving for an undisclosed fee from Lincoln City and admits he can't wait for the challenge on offer at Selhurst Park.

The 22-year-old had only been with Lincoln for two seasons after moving into English football from his native Northern Ireland where he had played with his hometown club Larne.

During his time at Sincil Bank, he helped the Imps into the play-offs for two successive seasons and last season netted three goals in the two semi-final games against Bristol Rovers to thrust himself firmly in the shop window.

Now he is hoping to to make an impression in the Championship and speaking to Palace World soon after completing his switch, he said: "I'm looking forward to the step up and the challenge and I'm very excited by it all.

"I had an enjoyable time at Lincoln, making the play-offs twice but I have the chance here now."

Hughes admits that the club's ambition to challenge for promotion played a big part and he wants to experience his Premiership dream with the Eagles.

"I'm just looking forward to getting on the pitch now and it's one of the bigger clubs in the league," he added.

"The manager has shown ambition of getting back into the Premiership and that's every footballer's dream."
