Crystal Palace FC Kickz Easter Tournament 2008
During the Easter holiday Kickz Project Officers from Bromley, Croydon and Sutton organised 2 tournaments- an under 14's (4 a side) and a under 19's (5 a side) tournament at Goals Soccer Centre, Elmers End Road Beckenham. Representatives from the Crystal Palace FC Kickz Projects entered the Tournament.
It was a fantastic day with over 60 youngsters attending the Tournament.
Over the 2 days there had to be one winner for both age groups With Grove Park (Sutton) beating Parkfield (Bromley) 2-1 in the under 14's category, and the eventual winners of the under 19's tournament were Milne Park (Croydon) beating Highbury (Croydon) 8-7 on penalties after a hard fought 0-0 draw.
Kickz is a football-based scheme that has developed through local partnerships with a number of agencies including the Premier League, The Football Association, The Football League, the Football Foundation, the Metropolitan Police Service, and the Metropolitan Police Authority to create a youth social inclusion project. It is based around professional club coaches taking football activities to the young people in the community aged 11 to 18 years, using local ballparks and facilities.
The main aims of the programme are to engage young people in a range of constructive activities which link to the Every Child Matters framework, break down barriers between the police and young people, reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the targeted neighbourhoods, increase the playing, coaching and officiating opportunities for participants, create routes into education, training and employment, encourage volunteering within projects and throughout the target neighbourhoods and increase young people's interest and connections with the professional game.
